Remember Johnstown

Today marks the 118th annivesary of the Great Johnstown Flood.

The following narrative about the 1889 flood is by Edwin Hutcheson, excerpted from "Floods of Johnstown: 1889-1936 -1977," published in 1989 by the Cambria County Tourist Council.

By the morning of May 31, 1889, there was water in the streets. Business people were moving their wares to the upper stories of their buildings. Families moved furnishings and supplies they would need to wait out the deluge.Johnstown had been built into a river valley on the Appalachian Plateau. The Little Conemaugh and the Stony Creek Rivers, which ran along the peripheral of the town and merged to form the Conemaugh River at the western end, drained a 657 square mile watershed which dropped in the rivers from mountains 500 feet above. At least once a year, one or both of the rivers overflowed into the streets sending the town's residents into a scurry to protect what they could of their homes and belongings.

Some of these floods were caused when heavy snows melted too quickly in the spring. And others, at any season of the year, when a heavy rain fell over the area. Whichever, floods were a fact of life to the nineteenth century resident of this industrial community in southwestern Pennsylvania. And, in the late afternoon of May 31, 1889, people were gathered in the upper stories of their homes, waiting out the worst of it, just as they had done many times before.Even as the residents of Johnstown prepared for their long wait, activity at the South Fork dam, just 14 miles above the city was frantic. The South Fork dam held back Lake Conemaugh, the pleasure lake of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, a prestigious club which included such famed entrepreneurs as Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick on its membership rolls. Officials there feared the dam would fail. Since midmorning, they'd worked to avoid this, because they feared the consequences. The lake was a little over two miles long, a little over a mile wide at its widest spot, and 60 feet deep at the dam itself.

Among the attempts were efforts to add height to the dam, then to dig a second spillway to relieve pressure from the breast, and finally to release the heavy screens placed on the overflows to keep the stocked fish from escaping into the streams below. By a little after 3 p.m., when most people in Johnstown were settling in to be marooned for the evening, club officials and the laborers they recruited, as well as a good sized audience from the little community of South Fork just below the dam, watched in dumbfounded horror as the dam "just moved away. "Within the hour, a body of water which engineers at the time estimated moved into the valley with the force of Niagara Falls, rolled into Johnstown with 14 miles of accumulated debris, which included houses, barns, animals and people, dead and alive.

Those who saw it coming described it as a rolling hill of debris about 40 feet high and a halfamile wide. But most only heard the thunderous rumble as it swept into the city to add Johnstown to a wake that already included bits and pieces of the communities of South Fork, Mineral Point, Woodvale and East Conemaugh. Some continued to wait out the disaster in their houses, others were picked up by the flood wave for a wild ride through the town to the Pennsylvania Railroad Company's Stone Bridge where debris piled 40 feet high and over 30 acres, then caught fire. Still others were shot down the Conemaugh River to die or be rescued at Nineveh, Bolivar or other communities downstream.

Six-year-old Gertrude Quinn Slattery was one of those caught in the flood wave. Years later she would write about her experience as she was hurled through the torrents on what she describes as a "raft with a wet muddy mattress and bedding.''"I had great faith that I would not be abandoned," she wrote. "While my thoughts were thus engaged, a large roof came floating toward me with about twenty people on it. I cried and called across the water to them to help me. This, of course they could not do. The roof was big, and they were all holding on for dear life, feeling every minute that they would be tossed to death. While I watched I kept praying, calling, and begging someone to save me. Then I saw a man come to the edge, the others holding him and talking excitedly. I could see they were trying to restrain him but he kept pulling to get away which he finally did, and plunged into the swirling waters and disappeared.

Then his head appeared and I could see he was looking in my direction and I called, cried, and begged him to come to me. He kept going down and coming up, sometimes lost to my sight entirely, only to come up next time much closer to my raft. The water was now between fifteen and twenty feet deep."As I sat watching this man struggling in the water my mind was firmly fixed on the fact that he was my saviour. At last he reached me, drew himself up and over the side of the mattress and lifted me up. I put both arms around his neck and held on to him like grim death. Together we went downstream with the ebb and flow of the reflex to the accompaniment of crunching, grinding, gurgling, splashing and crying and moaning of many. After drifting about we saw a little white building, standing at the edge of the water, apparently where the hill began. At the window were two men with poles helping to rescue people floating by. I was too far out for the poles, so the men called:'Throw that baby over here to us.'"My hero said: 'Do you think you can catch her?'"They said: 'We can try.'""So Maxwell McAchren threw me across the water (some say twenty feet, others fifteen. I could never find out, so I leave it to your imagination. It was considered a great feat in the town, I know.)"

The response to the disaster was immediate as over 100 newspapers and magazines sent writers and illustrators to Johnstown to recount the story for the world.Although not noted for their accuracy, the reports touched the hearts of the readers. People sent money, clothing, and food. Medical societies and doctors and hospitals sent medicines and bandages. Doctors left their practices and hurried to Johnstown to assist. Lumber was sent for rebuilding houses and businesses. The dead were lined up in morgues throughout the city and in communities further down the Conemaugh River until some survivor in search of a loved one came to identify them. Although damaged itself, the Presbyterian Church on Main Street was the site of one of the morgues. A reporter from the New York Evening Post described the scene there.

"The first floor has been washed out completely and the second, while submerged, was badly damaged, but not ruined. The walls, floors, and pews were drenched and the mud has collected on the mattings and carpets an inch deep. Walking is attended with much difficulty, and the undertakers and attendants, with arms bared, slide about the slippery surface at a tremendous rate. The chancel is filled with coffins, strips of muslin, boards and all undertaking accessories. Lying across the top of the pews are a dozen pine boxes each containing a victim of the flood. Printed cards are tacked to each. Upon them the sex and full description of the enclosed body is written with the name of the known." The living set up tents, often near to the places their former homes had been located and began what must of been perceived of as the impossible task of cleaning up and starting life again. Clara Barton and her Washington, D . C . contingent of the Red Cross built hotels for people to live in and warehouses to store the many supplies the community received By July 1, stores opened on the Main Street for business. The Cambria Iron Company reopened on June 6. Five years later, an observer would have been hard pressed to imagine the destruction in the valley on May 31, 1889.

Yet no city, county, or state legislation was enacted to protect people from similar disasters in the future. Suits were filed against the members of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, but in keeping with the times, the courts viewed the dam break as an act of God, and no legal compensation was made to the survivors. The city would continue to suffer nuisance floods, with water in the streets and in people's basements especially in the spring of the year. It would be another 47 years, and not until more property was destroyed and more lives lost, until some constructive efforts were made to control the waters that flowed through Johnstown.

Bugs, Full Moon, Babies & Crazies

I'm having a night like my sister! :-) HELP!!! I tried for about an hour & a half to go to sleep tonight but something was always 'wrong'. (mostly that I had to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes b/c someone is standing upside down on my bladder) ;-) As I was laying in bed facing the window it was unusually bright! So I looked & saw what I'm pretty sure was a full moon! I was kinda excited, if you've ever worked in medicine or in the ER, you've heard & know that babies & crazies come around on a full moon! I was thinking, OK, Lord, let's be 'crazies' tonight & have this baby! :-) Well, not too long after that I fell asleep, but I woke up around 1:13 & was stumbling though the doorway of our bedroom to go ~ (drum roll, bet you can't guess) to the bathroom when something landed on my hand!!! Well, I did a little dance & screamed & whatever it was left. Then I turned on the hall light & Jonathan asked me what was wrong. He said my scream made his blood go cold! (Sorry, honey!) And then it was on me again!!! I still didn't SEE it but it was there!!! I have no idea what it was but I really think it was probably a cockroach, because Jonathan just killed one last night, & usually where there's 1 there is more! But as I was stumbling in the dark I remember thinking, 'no, I don't want this baby to come tonight ~ I want to sleep!!!'. As I went back to bed & tried to go to sleep the little darling thought it was its turn to do a dance. :-) SMILE!!! And I kept feeling 'bugs' on me!!! So, I'm up now for a little while with a glass of peach crystal light & ice trying to get sleepy enough that I won't have trouble going back to bed!! :-)
Other than all this, my week has been pretty much uneventful. Last weekend we just hung out here ~ Jonathan spent Friday evening & ALL DAY Saturday working on the 4-Runner. Sunday was a good day, went to church, ate, & slept! :-) Monday, Jonathan had to work & since in South Texas they barely consider Memorial Day a holiday, there was nothing to do. Not even a parade!! They even have school at the public schools. But when Jonathan got off work, Jeremy came over & built a fire & grilled beef fajitas. We also had potato salad & chips. Not the typical Memorial Day meal(if you're from PA!) but it was good & fun! Then we all hung out & listened to story on CD.
Kylie is improving her walking skills!! She'll want to let go of your hand & then sometimes she'll get 3 or so steps in before falling. She has gotten really good at climbing up onto the couch! The other day she did a nose dive off the couch, looked up & said 'owe' & kept on playing! It was very funny!! She's also started 'talking' in rambling baby talk sentences! She'll mix tons of HER words together & its so fun to watch because she looks at you like she's really trying hard to get her point across.
Today we got the box from my mom with the new pack n' play! So, maybe tomorrow we can get the kids room fixed up. I have another appointment with the midwife ~ so we'll see what she says.
Well, I think I'm gonna head back to bed & try to get some sleep! My eyes are starting to burn so that's a good sign! Have a wonderful day!!

Memorial Day

Last night Jonathan & I were talking about Memorial Day & how we'd like to share with you some of our family & friends that has served & are serving for our country. I think the most patroric event we've ever been to, was when my couisn Matt came home from Kosovo & we were able to meet his plane! It was very emotional & made you feel very proud of your country & troops! I have a few more to add - but I wanted to get this on here! Matt & his little boy Jacob Welcome Home Banner!!

No new pictures

Good evening! No pictures today. I'm too tired. Just a quick report from the midwife! :-) This baby could surprise us & come early. :-) In some ways I'm ready for that & others I want it to wait until Becka gets here in three weeks, but I guess that's not for me to decide! It has dropped ~ way low! When they told me that Kylie was in the same place this one is now, my water broke the next day! I'm not getting too excited or uptight about it yet, we'll just have to wait & see! I came home from the clinic & made a big batch of King Ranch Chicken. We took a pan to a missionary family that the wife just had surgery a week ago & visited with them for a little while & then came home & ate our pan of King Ranch Chicken & corn on the cob. I took Kylie for a little walk outside & bathed her, she should be sleeping by now, so its my turn to go to bed! I missed my nap today! :-) BTW, this darling little baby still doesn't have an official name!! ALL of you need to help the daddy along & leave a comment with a girl & boy name that starts with a "K" ;-) I love you sweetheart, (I know you are reading this!!) just trying to help you!!! :-) I really think he has one in mind but just is having a great time keeping us in suspense!!

Visit to the park

We had a busy day today, after we got started! :-) Kylie & I both took a nap this morning for almost 2 hours! It was great! :-) Then we went to Walgreens to get some pictures printed. I started scrapbooking again last week, & I need a few printed to finish the pages I was working on. Thanks Esther for getting me inspired again! :-) Then we went to Sonic for lunch. The girl brought our food & said, 'Hi ma'me, your back again.' I said, "yes this is our favorite place to eat." I didn't have the guts to tell her I'm pregnant & addicted to their Raspberry Sweet Iced tea w/ lots of ice! :-) Then we went to HEB & I got the few things I needed & also got a good deal on the huggies baby wash I use! They had it on sale for 2 for $5.00 & I had 2 $1.00 off coupons! So, I got 2 for $3.00! I may go back later & use the other two coupons I have & then I should have enough to last for a long time, because its the big bottles! I also got a few boxes of Chicken Helper for $.37!! Now, that's a cheap meal! :-) I finally took Kylie to the park today. She wouldn't take a nap & has been real fussy lately, so I thought that would help her get tired! :-) She had a lot of fun! She is so fearless!! She liked the swings but it was very hot (90 degrees) & there was not any shade & I forgot the sunscreen, so I didn't stay too long. I also let her go down the slide! She really liked that & even figured out how to climb up it! :-) At one point she was holding on to the sides & walking UP the slide! And it wasn't a baby slide, as you can see from the pictures. My mom is gonna have a heart attack when she sees the video clips I took!! :-) There is also a dirt walking track at this park & I saw the funniest thing! I know she was trying to sweat off weight but I'd find a different way to do it!! Especially in South Texas! There was a lady jogging with a scraf hat, winter jacket & gloves! I tried to take a picture of her but I missed her both times when she went past where I was! I need to go make supper, so I'm off here! I hope my family is enjoying all these pictures -- I think its almost a record, new pics 3 or 4 days in a row!!

Pictures

Kylie was upset tonight while I was eating corn from the cob, (I cut it off, I don't like to eat it on the cob). Mom suggested I give her the cobs to play with! She enjoyed them. She did get a few pieces bit off!!! Most of all it kept her quite while I ate my supper!! She also took her first step, I think on Saturday, but she did about 3-4 today! :-)

What IS this stuff?

Um, tastes pretty good!

Ok, maybe not so good!!

Hey, I really CAN reach those keys!!

Kylie's 11 month pictures

It seems like just a few days ago that I posted Kylie's 10 month pictures! Time goes so fast!! But yesterday she was 11 months old. I had to go to McAllen for something else today, so I decided to make good use of my gas & get this done too. It was a hard choice to pick just 1 pose for my $9.99 package, I could have spend hundreds but I didn't! The one I did pick is the top one here. They did a great job with her this time & each picture shows her personality so beautifully!!!!

Our newest musician

I have a few more pictures of her trying to stand up to the piano to play, but the batteries are dead in the camera so I can't download them this minute, & its getting late & I want to go to bed. This picture is a little blurry because I took it with my phone but it was the quickest way to capture the moment! Enjoy!

News from the week

I'm just now getting back to this. Its 1AM & I'm up because I don't feel good. (I made Spaghetti for supper because I was hungry for it & now it made me sick) Oh well ~ that's how life is I guess. Its given me time to blog without an interruptions though. :-)
Its been a busy week for me. A lot of 'little things' happened...
  • Kylie got her first real injury. :-) She was 'walking' - holding on to our bed - & fell & busted her lip a little bit. At first I panicked, I'm not sure why I guess I was just so surprised to see blood, but then we shared a popcicle & that made it better. :-)
  • Last week, she got bit by something, we're not sure what so I had to take her to the Dr's last Friday. Her little hand was swollen at least 2 times its size or bigger. Thankfully two doses of the medicine took care of it. We are just praying we figure out what it was so we know how to react next time.
  • Today, Jonathan was off work finally! We relaxed in the morning & then this afternoon he cleaned the ground & planted part of my wildflower seeds & put up the little fencing I bought. Now hopefully they grow & quickly!! They say it takes 7-21 days for the seeds to germinate & 8-10 weeks for them to bloom. :-( I don't want to wait that long! But maybe with our great weather it'll speed up the process!
  • Gas is now $3.03 a gallon here! I'm sure its more up north, but for us this is a lot! So, no unnecessary trips to town! Especially since we don't have the little green machine anymore!
  • Kylie's changed so much in the past week its amazing. :-) She figures out all the 'wrong' things though - like opening the kitchen cupboards, pulling herself up to the counter & stove (no, She can't turn it on!!), eating 'real' food, pulling her books from the shelf! One thing she did today that was SOOO funny. I was putting her dress on & we were sitting on my bed & she found the charging cord to my cell phone & picked it up & bent it in half & held it up to her ear & said 'HI!' - She does that with a lot of things now. I promise I'll try to get more pictures on here this weekend of her. She's so active that its hard to get pictures, & we've not done anything new & exciting!
  • Oh, one more thing - Kylie was playing in her pool this week one evening & we let Copper loose (our dog, whom Kylie LOVES!). Of course Copper was right there with her like always & Kylie tried to share her toys with Copper! It was very cute!
  • We also make a 'quick trip' to the Progresso Market on Tuesday afternoon. We needed more heart guard for Copper & its only $13.50 there compared to $40-$50 here in the states. But on the way back we went over the levy humps in Donna & you should have seen Kylie's face! (If you've been over them, you know what I mean!) Her eyes got HUGE, & she grabbed the sides of her carseat!!! And kinda did a big intake of air! I'd almost be willing to go back over them just to get a video clip of her face!!!

Oh well -- great memories so far this week, I think I'm ready to go back to bed! I'm getting pretty sleepy! And 7AM comes fast! Good night or - good morning! :-)

Homesick for Mexico

I've been so homesick for Mexico the past few days, it hurts! Its been since last summer that I've been in the interior, so I guess that's why. We haven't been able to go because of my pregnancy, I get very sick traveling & also on the food. To be there you have to travel & eat the food! So, today I thought I would share a few pictures with you of some of the trips we've taken. Always be prepared to share the road! Standing in the village of Villa MaineroButchering a pig for dinner at Mainero Camp Meeting - it was impossible for me to eat lunch that day!
The road to the mountains!

South Padre Island

On Saturday, our family, along with our friends Jeremy & Jared went to S.P.I. We had lots of fun. The weather was perfect for being at the beach. Kylie loved the water this time (it wasn't freezing cold!!) We played in the sand & in the surf. She thought the seed weed made a great toy! (YUK!) She had fun watching Jared make a sand castle. Jonathan found a jelly fish! And for once we found nice shells. Usually the shells here are just little & not pretty. But this time there were some bigger ones & some of them were really pretty. We ended our evening eating at Cap N' Roy's Mexican & seafood restaurant. I only got a cheeseburger though because I don't really like seafood & Mexican makes me sick right now! It was all good though!!

Pretty shell I found - you can't see it real good in the picture, but its red & green.

The jelly fish

Jeremy, Jared & Kylie all fell asleep on the way home. I couldn't resist this picture!

Pictures from today

Kylie got to wear her "new" dress today that I got her at the Thrift Store this week. Its so pretty & from The Children's Place. It fits her perfect. :-) She looks so grown up in it. ;-) And tonight she let me put her hair in a pony tail at the top with a bow! I was so excited! I was going to wait til after church to take a picture of her but I'm glad I didn't. As you can see in the one of us together the bow is missing & the hair is a little messed up. We did get to go to the Island yesterday, & had a wonderful time! I'll post those pictures tomorrow. I'll be stuck home all day so I'll need something to do. LOL! I have plenty to do - I'm looking foward almost to not being about to go anywhere. But by Tuesday, I'll be ready to go somewhere! I need to get to bed ~ Kylie didn't let me take a very long nap this afternoon. :-) I think she's either getting sick again or cutting more teeth!!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to the two best mom's & grandma's in the world! We love you & wish we could be with both of you today. Hope your day is special!!

New pictures of Kylie

She figured out how to dump over her toy container! :-) I'm sure it wasn't hard. LOL
My mom reminded me the other day that I havn't posted too many pictures of Kylie lately - so we took some this week & here they are! Yes, she's in her pajamas & yes they are boys - she is so tall that its hard for me to find sleepers for her & I found this one the other day at the thift store 50% off so I got it! :-)

Just like Mommy

Not too much to write today - but I did want to share this picture of Kylie. I took this on the way to church last night. I've been driving the truck so she was in the front with me & talking on her cell phone. It was backwards but it was the first time she has put it up to her ear. I guess she's watched me too much lately! She kept saying "HI" into it!! :-) It was a priceless memory. I was also hungry for store bought birthday cake & ice cream yesterday (don't ask - I'm pregnat!) so our friend Jeremy just finished his finals yesterday so we called him to come after church & have cake & ice cream to celebrate his being done with the semester! The cake was wonderful & we had fun! Kylie didn't get to eat any because she was too tired & had to go to bed! :-( Today, I'm very sick with a head cold. My ears & throat hurt very bad. But I'm feeling some better than I did this morning! Jonathan had to work until like 12:30-1:00 today & this afternoon I didn't feel good so no driving lesson today - unless we do it later tonight but I doubt it. He's planning to grill chicken for supper & I think we'll all go to bed early. :-) He's worked every day this week & been up til midnight or later with me or working on the 4-Runner, & I'm always tired so -- anyway - I'm gonna go, I've gone to rambling!! LOL

Update

Hi. I'll give you a quick update on our week. Monday night we finally got the car sold! It was like midnight until it all got taken care of. I was a little sad, since I've had it for 6 years but I'm excited about the 4-Runner & since I love my family & its growing ~ well, enough said! I have total peace about it & am doing good now. Just a little pregnancy hormonal thing going on!! :-)
Just today I discovered that while I was out on Monday I had my camera with me & when I went into a store I put it under the front passenger seat!!! Thankfully, we sold the car to a friend, who Jonathan called & the camera is safe! I was about to cry when I realized what I did!! It would be pretty hard for me to live without my camera! (I think it would be harder on my family without pictures of Kylie!!) Anyway ~ Monday was busy for us - I had to go to McAllen to pick up Kylie's pictures at Sears, get diapers at Target, get my new cell phone at Circuit City & of course I went to the Thrift Store & Sonic! My new cell phone is a pink Razr!! No, I'm not that rich. I will only have paid $20 for it after I get the rebate back! Its pretty awesome! The sales rep also gave Kylie a pretty neat demo phone. She was all excited about it. Now, she won't want mine...yeah right! :-)
We were able to get the 4-Runner last evening after Jonathan got off work. He spent the evening fixing the AC & putting in the CD player. I visited with our neighbor while Kylie played with their little boy. He's a year older than her & they had a good time together. She was tired & fell asleep as soon as I put her to bed!
That's all the news here for the day! Oh, its only 6 more weeks until the new darling appears!!

It was 6 years ago today, that God saw fit to take the greatest missionary we know, home to Heaven. We don't understand why, but have laid that all at Jesus feet! Jonathan's dad spent twenty or so years working in Mexico, planting churches. His last great venture was to start a tract ministry in Mexico City, (the largest or second largest city in the world - I can't remember which right now.) God blessed this ministry in so many ways. His goal was to pass out one million tracts in the city. With the help of many teams this & more has been acomplished! Several years ago, Jonathan's mom was priviledged to pass out the 1 millionth tract to a hungry soul in Mexcio City. There is a church in Salamanca right now because of someone recieving a tract there. I'm sure there are many other souls that received spiritual help because of these tracts that we have no idea of. This is always a hard day for our family but God has worked & is working to heal the hurt. He is such a great, big, wonderful God!

Kylie's new adventures

These are few a weeks old but they are so cute & I kept forgetting to put them on. She loves to climb up & look at the fish now. She is totally her daddy's girl when it comes to animals. :-) And the bottom one is of her looking at the manual for the car. (Again her daddy's girl!)

My 'new' Toyota 4-Runner

Here are a few pictures of our new 4-Runner. As of this moment its not totally paid off but the guy is holding it until we sell our car. (Which someone is supposed to buy it today). So we'll see how things all work out. Friday night we rented a rug doctor steam cleaner & did the seats & floors in the car & got it all good to sell, & then while we had the rug doctor Jonathan did the truck & then he went & got the 4-Runner & cleaned it all up too. That took all day Saturday. I was feeling pretty good the first part of the week, but by Wednesday, I was wiped out & it kept getting worse so by Friday night & Saturday I was no good to anyone. I just sat & laid around all day Saturday. I was able to help Jonathan some & he went with me to Walmart to get groceries, we had a great supper of microwave meals & then all went to bed. Yesterday morning I was still not feeling the best but we went to church & ate a quick lunch & took a nap (until Kylie woke up) but she played good by herself, so I just sat & read a book & felt a lot better then. I feel good today but I learned my lesson ~ not to over do it the first part of the week. :-) I guess that's all the news from our weekend. Not too exciting, but that's ok. No complaints here - boring is good once in a while!!

What another crazy day!!

Today was yet another crazy day in the life of the Springers! I'm learning this is normal! I'm chillin' in bed with the laptop b/c my feet & hands are very swollen. I'm not really sure why except I've been up ALL day since 7:30 this morning. I had my other higher level sonogram today. We had to drop Kylie off at 'Aunt Esther's' by 8:45 to make it to McAllen by 9. Thanks, Esther - I forgot to tell you, but its a good thing we didn't take her with us - there was a bright yellow sign in the waiting room - NO CHILDREN! It was a genetic couseling office. I'm not really sure why they sent me there - Sitting there I kept thinking, is there something really wrong that they didn't want to tell us before. It was very sobering. There was another couple there, & the wife was totally a basket case. She kept crying & holding her head. I had to stop & thank God for my life & knowing that we are in His control. Anyway -- the tech couldn't tell us anything but she did show us the baby & gave us 2 pictures of its face. Its very plain - its cheeks almost look fat! :-) We didn't need any counseling so I'm assuming everything is fine with the fluid level. Jonathan said he saw her write on the report "normal" for fluid level. I have an appointment with the midwife on Thursday & they will probably have the full report by then. We came home & Jonathan had gotten a used air conditioner & went to get it fixed b/c it was broken, he has it all installed & working good. By then it was 4:30 & Jeremy called & said he was coming over. I was going to get fruit slushies from Sonic b/c they are 1/2 price from 3-5 in the afternoon!!! I got 3 slushies, One large & 2 mediums for $2.65!!!!!! Can't beat that for a great summer treat! Oh, as I was leaving, my car decided not to start for me. So, Jonathan had to come check it out & of couse it started for him & but he said there could be something wrong with it. We enjoyed our slushies & then went to WalMart to get a new grill & stuff to make hamburgers for supper. Our other grill got retired to the dumpster! This one is great! It has longer legs & has a top rack to warm things on. And it was a great WalMart price of $10.00!! We made supper & cleaned up outside & now Jonathan & Jermey are playing a computer game. After these pictures upload ~ I'm going to bed too. Thankfully, as far as I know I don't have anything pressing to do!
